TELETEXT from ERT
Striving for the state-of-the-art television services, the Greek Public Television ERT s.a. has recently started Teletext services. Thus, after the implementation of digital technology in the production and distribution field, the transmission in Wide Screen Format 16:9 (Pal Plus), from June 1996 ERT transmits Teletext in the First, Second and Third State Channel.The hardware and software used for Teletext production and transmission are based on the most modern technology, supporting FASTEXT, TOP & FLOF, Program Delivery Control (PDC), DATABROADCASTING, PACKET 8/30, whereas data acquisition from remote sources envisage the use of ISDN and the data ASTET GATEWAY. Transmission is mainly in Greek, with a few pages in English according the Regulatory directives of EBU. The Greek character set is an International prototype and it was designed by the Directorate of Technical Services of ERT in collaboration with the Hellenic Standards Organisation (ELOT) and the Ministry of Education in 1988-89. The first test transmissions were possible on November 1995 and on June 1996, ERT started the first in Greece Teletext transmission covering the whole country (complete geographical and population coverage) and the satellite network. Since then, the number of transmitted pages haw reached the number 1200 and there is a constant effort for development and growth. These pages cover a gamut of interests while most of them are updated on a 24 hour basis. The topics covered today are Coastal, Air and Road transportation, Theatres and Cinemas, the Athens Concert Hall (OMMA) and the National Music Theatre (Ethniki Lyriki Skini), Hospitals and Pharmacies, TV and Radio programmes, Book presentation, M.O.T. schedule, Winter ski centres, sport results etc., while in the immediate future there will be news coverage (political, financial, sports and meteorological) with the reliability and the quality characterising the services offered by ERT.
