PROJECT SUMMARY

It is common remark among the Network Scientists, that despite of the last years tremendous evolution of computer communication networks and especially Internet and their services and facilities, little has been done toward the direction of usage and penetration of these network services within the domain of education - training and mainly within the subdomains of life long training, continuing vocational training and distance training.

It is also perceivable by the average mind and not only by the experts authority, that the user friendly multimedia based telecommunication as well as information services of Internet, can be used as a standard electronic platform to support not only separate actions but also and primarily the main procedures of distance, life long and continuing training. The penetration of the above mentioned telecommunication and information services within these educational subdomains will improve on one hand the effectiveness and productivity parameters of these educational-training subdomains because of the multiplicative possibilities that are involved due to the evolving widespread and boundless network distribution among several vocational groups, last years. On the other hand, these network services are cheap enough  or cheaper compared to any other candidate, so that they can assure the performance - price ratio will be improved even further by the mere usage and exploitation of these services.

In this project we are going to design and develop the following:

    a. An electronic environment that will be based on the usage of the advanced teleconference (e-mail, chat, voice, video) services of Internet. This environment will work via Internet and will offer a sum of facilities and services that will be able to support, via an easy and friendly way, education and training in the form of life long and continuing education and training.

    b. The design and development of electronic informative material in the form of Web and CD-ROM is included. This informative material will be based on text, sound and video (multimedia) and will be directed toward the aim of training in electrology (science, modern products and technology) the community of industrial electricians and students.

    c. Furthermore, the creation of a human network of scientists, technicians and productors within the scientific domain of electrology, is also within the central goals of the present proposal. This network will undertake the role of the information circulator from and to industry, electricians and students. This network, via specific actions, will inform the electricians and students for new products, availability, prices etc. Also will bear the feedback and demands from electricians to industry.

    d. In addition the installation and running of the appropriate teleconference services of Internet based on chat, voice and video are included in the goals of this proposal. The teleconference services will support the distributed operation of the human network and will be used to support and cooperate with the above mentioned "electronic environment".

    e. Finally, the design and running of a pilot application of life long and distance training within the scientific domain of electrology will be corporated in the proposal. In this pilot all the above mentioned actions and developments will be coordinated so that the desired outcome of training will be available in the electricians community, for application and evaluation that will lead to the final improvements of the central as well as the subsidiary design and developments.

Concluding the short presentation of this proposal, we underline that the main goals of this project are presented in the above paragraphs (a,b,c,d and e). It is also understandable that the main products and actions of this project can be used for the support and development of other applications of teletraining and in any other field of knowledge tranfer. This fact will have radical impact on the form of training systems and politics, ginen that is the first time that an integrated teletraining system based on the teleconferencing facilities of Internet introdused.

This system, through the deliberated composition of this consortium will be disseminated among one large sum of education-training organisations within all countries that are presented in the consortium.
